Overview
Alar reduction is usually approached not as a surgery that simply makes the nostril base as small as possible, but as a way to refine the overall nasal line by considering the current alar width, nostril shape, connection with the tip and bridge, and the frontal facial proportion together. In Korean plastic surgery clinics, it is often considered when the nose looks wide from the front or when wide alars make the nasal line appear heavier or less refined. However, the same reduction range is not applied to everyone. The incision location and the extent of reduction can vary depending on skin thickness, tissue condition, and the desired image, and if too much is removed, the result can start to look unnatural or make the nostril shape appear awkward. That is why anatomy-based planning is especially important. The real goal is not to reduce more, but to create a natural proportion that matches the tip, bridge, and the whole face.
